Today on 4th March 2022 has been celebrated as ‘Jan Aushadhi Jan Jagran Abhiyan’ by conducting seminars, pledge by citizens to use Jan Aushadhi generic medicines, pledge by doctors to prescribe generic medicines and various other events with pharmacy colleges and universities.
In the same context, Shri Bhagwanth Khuba, Hon’ble Minister of State for Chemicals & Fertilizers flagged off Marusagar Express at Railway Station, Ajmer, Rajasthan which carried information about the benefits of Jan Aushadhi medicines as a media for sicoal engagement and outreach. The train would travel through seven States covering Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Goa, Karnataka and Kerala to create awareness about Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Jan Aushadhi Pariyojana.p
Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices Bureau of India is the implementing agency of ‘Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Jan Aushadhi Pariyojana’ under the aegis of the Department of Pharmaceuticals, Ministry of Chemicals & Fertilizers to provide high-quality generic medicines at affordable rates. To further provide impetus and create awareness about the use of Generic Medicines, 7th March of every year is celebrated as ‘Jan Aushadhi Diwas’ and 1st March to 7th March as ‘Jan Aushadhi week’ across India as announced by Hon’ble Prime Minister of India.
As on 31st January 2022, the number of stores has increased to 8,675. Under the PMBJP, all 739 districts of the nation have been covered. During the current financial year, i.e., 2021-22 till 31.01.2022, Pharmaceuticals & Medical Devices Bureau of India (PMBI), the implementing agency of PMBJP has made sales of Rs. 751.42 Crore, which has further led to savings of approximately Rs. 4,500 Cr. to the citizens.
In this year, as announced by the Hon’ble Prime Minister, PMBI is celebrating 4th Jan Aushadhi Diwas. PMBI started celebrations of Jan Aushadhi Diwas from 1st March, 2022 by conducting various events throughout the week. PMBI has already celebrated Jan Aushadhi Sankalp Yatra, Matri Shakti Samman and Jan Aushadhi Bal Mitra on 1st March, 2nd March and 3rd March, 2022, respectively, across the country.
The programme this year is being held under the aegis of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav commemorating 75 years of India’s independence which is an initiative of the Government of India to celebrate and commemorate 75 years of progressive India and the glorious history of its people, culture and achievements.
